Cài Yuánpéi 蔡元培 (1868-1940) was well-known as an educator and intellectual. Also he did not identify as a Buddhist, he had a life-long interest in Buddhism, lending his support to the periodical Fóxué cóngbào 佛學叢報 (Buddhist Miscellany). He also supported the Fóhuà xīn qīngnián huì 佛化新青年會 (Association for the Buddhacization of the New Youth)
